PIONEER - this piece has a lovely symbolism combining two shapes that are important in our local culture: the manaia and the koru.
We had our mammoth material carbon dated to get an accurate measure of its age. The testing was done for us by GNS Science, a New Zealand Crown Research Institute and New Zealand's leading provider of Earth, geoscience and isotope research - so their assessment of this material is as accurate as is possible using radiocarbon dating technology.
The birds head on this manaia symbolises your Guardian Spirit. Traditional belief is that it will guide you and keep you safe on your journey through life. It is a symbol of youth, new beginnings and prosperity.
The koru symbolises new life, the central spiral shape represents an unfolding silver fern frond - the beginning of its life. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’.
This is a fabulous pendant if you're embarking on new challenges. A little partner to keep you company.
The body of this piece is carved from a gorgeous dark woolly mammoth tusk and the eyes are made from our beautiful deep water Pāua shell.
The Mammoth Tusk is CERTIFIED 34,690 YEARS OLD (+/- 815 years).
We provide these with a hand-plaited adjustable cord.
