KORU SHELL - Carved from New Zealand Argillite
KORU SHELL is a large Koru by Kerry Thompson. This is an exceptional piece in every sense - beautifully designed and flawlessly carved and the finish is sublime.
The colour of the stone is a shimmering pale grey with a few small darker inclusions through the bottom curve of the carving. The finish is a great example of craftsmanship - Kerry has a unique ability to vary his polish so that wonderful contrasts emerge. This transforms a piece giving it depth and contrast - very evident here.
KORU SHELL is a 'one-off' carving which we are delighted to have available for sale.
Carved with Kerry's exceptional attention to detail, this is a faultless carving. KORU SHELL is a carved artwork that we think will become a very meaningful heirloom.
If you would like to own a superb carving from a very talented artist and carver - take a close look at this piece, it is truly beautiful.
Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
This piece is provided on a plaited Tan, fixed/adjustable length cord
