Maripi - Knife: handmade jade toki.

Beautiful hand carved toki - a fantastic gift for someone very special. This toki is carved from Nephrite Jade found in Aceh, Indonesia. The Jade has a lovely mix of colours  - milky green shades and paler whitish mineral inclusions.

Have a look at the video and you will see the variability of colours in this marvellous piece. Each toki is hand bound with a waxed cord. The neck cord is hand plaited and is adjustable. It has a couple of slip knots so that you can position the pendant where it suits you best.

As an adornment, the Toki, or Adze, is said to bring courage and strength in times of adversity. It is a symbol of courage and strength in times of adversity and is often worn by Māori elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.

Māori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.

MARIPI is lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch and provided with our 'Kia Ora' card which has a little information about the Toki design.
