This piece is named TINANA, WHAIKORERO, HINENGARO - Body, Speech, Mind
TINANA, WHAIKORERO, HINENGARO - carved by one of our favourite bone carvers, Andrew Doughty. This is a standout carved toki. the design is beautiful and meaningful, and the execution is flawless - one of our absolute favourites!
Andrew carves with a great deal of connection to each piece he creates. He has respect for the symbolism the designs project and he is very careful to create balanced beautiful designs - TINANA, WHAIKORERO, HINENGARO is a superb example of this.
Andrew describes the ethos behind his design in some detail and we will supply this description with the carving. Briefly it's meaning is as follows...
TINANA, WHAIKORERO, HINENGARO contains a kowhaiwhai pattern along both sides. This symbolises balance. With a balanced mind we can navigate our lives with calm and confidence.
On the front there are three special inlays of pāua in the middle of this taonga (treasure). These symbolise the nature of our body speech and mind. At another level, the largest inlay in the centre symbolises the deepest most pure aspect of our innermost being and union with this aspect of our nature.
On the back there is an engraving of the logo of NZPacific. This symbolises the meeting of the Mountains and the sea. In New Zealand we are fortunate to be close to these beautiful and mighty powers of nature. There are few places in the world where they both meet so closely together. In essence, it is a celebration of nature and love.
This Taonga has been registered in Andrew's database and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
We provide this piece with a note from the artist to the holder of this carving.
