"Like the dorsal fin of a shark, stand tall" - Rueben Tipene
URUTIRA possesses a dainty, sharp and gracefully symmetrical shape. Crafted from New Zealand flower jade and featuring its identifiable green and orange tones, Rueben has finalized the piece with a satin/matte luster for a pleasing texture and to showcase its unique marbling.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE MATAU...
The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
The Hook: The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
URUTIRA is provided with a fixed length black cord and Jade toggle.
If you would like an adjustable cord, or a different coloured cord with the loop and toggle - please let us know in the comments section at checkout.
