NEW ARRIVAL
A Flower Jade Toki carved for us by Ross Crump. We've named this piece ALLUVIAL because it reminds us of the deposits created by some of our gorgeous, fast running rivers.
Ross is a Master Jade Carver known for his ability to work with jade in imaginative and creative ways. Ross carves some of the most beautiful pieces we have seen, particularly in flower jade. He has a real affinity with this rare material and he utilises the colours and textures of the stone to create beautiful, unique works of art - as you can see we are fans!!
Carved with clean, simple lines and traditionally lashed, this toki is a beautiful representation of the revered māori adze.
WHY WEAR A TOKI?
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
This jade comes from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It has been created in the alpine fault under extreme pressure and has been worked over in a fast flowing, steep river.
These pendants are traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We will ship this beautiful pendant to you with DHL Express Courier, with a hand plaited and adjustable cord.
Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
