ALONG THE PLAINS - the colouring in this piece reminds us of the beauty you see travelling ALONG THE PLAINS. A soft green colour with a dusting of pale tan - just like the dried grasses swaying over the underlying green grass. These are colours that remind me of the landscape through the East Coast of our North Island at certain times of the year - gorgeous!
We've bound this with a four plait beige coloured cord with a beige binding in traditional toki style. Subtle colours that do not distract from this stunning piece of Jade.
The Toki Design history.....
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori. The toki, worn as a piece of jewellery, is recognition of the importance of this tool to the Pacific People.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
