NEW ARRIVAL

AMBITION - An ambitious pendant incorporating three traditional designs

This pendant is beautifully carved and a striking work of art. We provide this with a length adjustable, Khaki Green and Ice White braided cord and have added an Ice White floret popper to continue the design into the binding. The cord is adjustable.

This is the last piece of three that we had carved - one in Flower Jade called TŪRANGAWAEWAE, one in Marsden called HERITAGE - and this piece, AMBITION which is carved in rare Tangiwai Pounamu.

This is a rare and beautiful stone that is found in a very remote part of the country, Anita Bay at the entrance to Fiordland. The real beauty of this stone is its deep colour and clarity. It is classed as pounamu because of the high regard that Māori have for this stone. They recognised its rare beauty and have long used it to make jewellery.

AMBITION's design was carefully thought through with the following thinking sitting behind this pendant. In the words of the artist:

This design has a combination of a koru, matau (hook) and a pikorua (twist). The hook gives us good luck and energy. It's believed to bring peace, prosperity and good health. The simplified twist at the top of this piece is about the flow of energy between the spiritual and physical worlds. It signifies the bond that you have with your whānau (family).

The twist carving with its crisscross form represents the many paths of life and love and as such is regarded as the original eternity symbol. The single twist carving represents the joining together of two people for eternity. Its shape describes the way relationships shift, sometimes moving apart, but coming together as a couple share their lives.

The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’.  The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.

The Hook:  The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.

The shape is streamlined, gloriously curved and quite unique. Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the artistry of this beautiful piece.
