A spectacular piece of wearable art for bird lovers!
HUIA is a magnificent piece, hand carved from a piece of Deer antler. The Huia is a, now extinct, native bird of New Zealand. They were apparently a little 'ecologically naive' and being poor flyers were easy prey for two and four-legged predators! More is the shame because they were a lovely and striking song-bird.
This carving depicts a female head and beak. The female had a decurved, longer beak than the male - Fumio has done a remarkable job fashioning this delicately carved piece and it is a great tribute to another lost icon of our bush.
Take a close look at the photos to appreciate the detail of this piece. HUIA is a medium sized pendant, but looks fantastic when worn. We will supply this with a hand-plaited, adjustable black cord.
We have added a photo (courtesy of Wikipedia) of a print of a male and female Huia - just to give you a little perspective!
