TOKI PAIR AUHUNGA and TEAK
AUHUNGA is named after the stunning New Zealand Jade this Toki has been carved from. We love this stone, particularly the way Ross has carved this piece - highlighting its semi-translucent head, descending through a cloudy green to a white mint green colour at the base. This wonderful Toki was hand carved for us by Ross Crump. The photos, and the video, reveal the beauty of this pendant. We've bound this piece with a hand plaited cord in Ice White and Khaki colours and Khaki Green binding. These pick up the tones in the stone and complement its unique colouring.
AUHUNGA is partnered with a striped TEAK wood toki. A beautiful, slender piece that looks wonderful on - it is elegant and subtle. We have bound TEAK with a Wapiti Brown cord and have followed this through in the binding at the head of the toki which is Wapiti and Khaki.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve this stunning Toki came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island, from the Marsden valley. It was been created in the alpine fault and was shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We include (GRATIS) a Toki hand made from Striped Teak wood. We've bound this in a wapiti brown cord with a very cool double binding of wapiti brown and khaki green. The size of this Toki is 78mm (3") long, 22mm (0.8") wide.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
