AUPIKI is a hei-matau carved from bone. Andrew has taken great care to craft a meaningful piece, a pendant with significance.
We have paired this lovely Matau with our Whiorau (4-Plait Fern Green and Tan) adjustable cord. The binding around the head of the hook is in a Kalahari tan colour.
If you like handcrafted, traditional art to wear, and if you appreciate the finest craftsmanship - check this piece out, it's a beauty!
The Hook: The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
Also included, a note from the carver to the holder of the carving, regarding AUPIKI and its' symbolism.
This pendant will be delivered to you on a plaited, adjustable cord.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' card, which explains the meaning behind the Hook design.
