Whakaaro nui - wisdom

This toki has been hand carved from natural bone. It is a beautiful golden ivory colour which is nicely offset with tan braided cord binding. We have a deep traditional etching across the front, in wave form, pointing to the ocean going heritage of those that developed and respected this important tool.

The toki or adze was an important tool for the polynesian people, used to build meeting houses and shape their sea-going canoes. It has been traditionally worn to give strength and courage to the wearer.
