Handcarved by New Zealand carver Clem Mellish, this is an exceptional piece both in the execution, but also in the quality of the jade. It is absolutely stunning - a pale minty teal colour, delicate finely carved, fanciful and quite unique.
D'URVILLE is unique in its design and execution, and most interestingly in the jade Clem has used. This stone came from D'Urville Island - also known as Rangitoto ki te Tonga - an island in the Marlborough Sounds on the Northern Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is very rare to find jade outside of the West Coast, and it is usually locals like Clem that from time to time find this rare material.
He has done a fine job with this piece - it is an exceptional carving of our koru - a really lovely pendant.
Take a look at the video - you will see that this piece has real form, Clem has carved it with a lot of form that is best revealed in the video.
Wear it either side and it looks fantastic!
