This piece is named E RERE ANA - which means FLOWING or to Flow.
E RERE ANA is one of a series of toki that we commissioned from Andrew. These are beautifully carved, thoughtful pieces that capture concepts that are important to us. The materials used are beautiful and significant, for a multitude of reasons, in our corner of the world.
E RERE ANA - is a medium sized and beautifully carved traditional Adze/Toki. Carved by one of our favourite bone carvers, Andrew Doughty.
This is a beautiful piece, carved with a great deal of care and thought. Andrew describes the ethos behind his design in some detail and we will supply this description with the carving. Briefly it's meaning is as follows...
On the front of E RERE ANA Andrew has carved a kowhaiwhai flowing towards the top of the binding. This represents reaching out and up - striving to engage and progress.
On the back there is a complex kowhaiwhai pattern that pervades the whole taonga. It shows that sometimes the turbulence of our mind may not easily be understood by others, yet when we can learn to flow deeply within and work with this, our mind will become overfilled with joy.
This Taonga has been registered in Andrew's database and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
A fantastic toki, meaningful, beautifully carved and deserving of a home for generations.
We provide this piece with a note from the artist to the holder of this carving.
Also included, on of our Kia Ora cards which explain a little behind the Toki design. This stunning Toki will come to you in one of our wooden boxes.
