This piece is one of a kind!
Hand carved from a fascinating piece of New Zealand Jade. The base colour of the stone is a pale, minty green, the sprinkles of small reddish and black colour are mineral inclusions that have coloured the jade during its formation.
This jade would have come from a part of the stone that is close to the outer edge, or crust, of the boulder. This is the part of the stone that is youngest and still displays the most obvious effects of mineral inclusions and weathering. It is this diversity in colour that makes jade such a fascinating and attractive stone. It picks up and contains its environment forever.
The toki is a tribal symbol representing strength. It is designed to honour the adze which was used to build, to fight and to defend. Toki played an important role in the daily survival of ancient tribes.
We deliver this pendant on a plaited and adjustable cord. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
