This large matau, is carved from New Zealand jade. A beautiful piece of stone from the Marsden valley in New Zealand - it is a deep, soft green and has been polished to a dull, satin matte.
MĀIA - a beautiful piece of jade art carved for us by Ric Moor. The best way to appreciate this work is to watch the brief video we have taken of it slowly revolving. Look for the lighter coloured layering in the jade and the slight colour variations - these are the things that make this piece unique.
MĀIA - a piece to be worn and displayed - the carving and the jade are both perfect. We love the koru in the centre - it is carved with a real swing, curving back in on itself and ending in a fine translucent point.

The Matau (hook): The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
