NAMED AFTER THE BEAUTIFUL, FAN-SHAPED GINGKO LEAF
A beautifully carved contemporary fan-shaped drop pendant made from Tangiwai Pounamu. This form is also called a 'Roimata' - these are known as comfort stones and a re often worn to provide the wearer with strength and courage when facing a challenge. It is worn to protect, heal and comfort.
This particular drop is a lovely tactile pendant that is beautiful to handle. It is carved from a wonderfully fine piece of stone - hold it up to the light and you will see that it is very translucent, it reveals the inner structure of this rare and beautiful pounamu.
Tangiwai comes from a remote area in the Milford Sounds called Piopiotahi. This is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, so the translation means 'tears of sorrow'.
This pendant is beautifully carved and bound. It is streamlined, gloriously curved and polished to a high gloss. Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the artistry of this beautiful piece.
As a matter of interest, the GINGKO is revered in Japan as a symbol of endurance and longevity. The Gingko tree can live for up to one thousand years and, apparently, four of these trees survived the bomb blast in Hiroshima. These are a tough plant and we think well represented with this fine little pendant.
