Carved from a beautiful piece of colourful green Pounamu - a very fine Marsden jade.
FORTUITOUS was carved by Donna Summers, a great young artist and carver. She has a fine touch and handles the stone with a delicacy that is reflected in her work. This piece is a great example of this.
The very best way to appreciate this matau (apart from holding it in your hands) is to watch the brief video we have taken of it slowly revolving. It really is a stunner! The carved form is balanced but interesting - Donna has used the perfect piece of stone for the design and she has executed the carving beautifully.
The meaning behind the design...
The koru symbolises new life, the central spiral shape represents an unfolding silver fern frond - the beginning of its life. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. This is a fabulous pendant if you're embarking on new challenges. A partner to keep you company.
The hook: The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
