Flower Jade, Rare and Beautiful....
Hand carved, rare flower jade manaia. A Ross Crump beauty!
This manaia has been carved from a gorgeous piece of flower jade. The colours in the jade vary beautifully from a deep green in the head through a stunning coppery-gold with flecks of red at the bottom of the body.
This is a finely carved pendant with lots of detail. Look at the traditional head flowing into a graceful koru swirl through the body.
This is a beautiful and unique piece which incorporated two traditional forms:
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
