NEW ARRIVAL
ASPIRATION - a strong desire, longing or aim....
A striking New Zealand Flower Jade Toki. A traditional piece of jewellery with a little contemporary vibe.
This is a wonderful stylised carving of the revered Māori adze. Striking about this piece is the relief carved into the from face. It is very apt for a country surrounded by the ocean and where the koru symbol is so loved. The finish is a satin matte.
For the necklace, we used our four plait black cord, which is length adjustable. The binding at the head is a beautiful burgundy - rich and eye-catching.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. In pre-iron age times it was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. In early Aotearoa/New Zealand, the adze was used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve ASPIRATION came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It was been created in the alpine fault and was shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
