NEW ARRIVAL
This piece is named HURITAU - to consider, to reflect
HURITAU is a medium sized and beautifully carved traditional Adze/Toki. Carved by one of our favourite bone carvers, Andrew Doughty.
This is a beautiful piece, carved with a great deal of care and thought. Andrew describes the ethos behind his design in some detail and we will supply this description with the carving. Briefly it's meaning is as follows...
HURITAU contains a kowhaiwhai pattern on the front and a reflection of this on the back. This represents the river of life and all its twists and turns. It symbolises the art of skilfully navigating ones life. The reflection on the back shows that there are many hidden mysteries within our mind which we discover through inner exploration, and which provide the insight and courage to prevail.
A fantastic toki, meaningful, beautifully carved and deserving of a home for generations.
We provide this piece with a note from the artist to the holder of this carving.
