A small, unique drop pendant - we've named ITI - little or small in Māori.

Carved from rare tangiwai this is a lovely pendant - the stone is very translucent so if you hold it up to the light all of the internal wonders in this pounamu will be revealed.

Tangiwai is a rare and interesting stone. It is scarcer than jade and is found in Anita Bay - one small area in Piopiotahi, The Milford Sounds.

Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, 'tears of sorrow'. It is the perfect stone for a drop-shaped pendant.

We have bound this piece with an olive green cord and have lashed the top using a traditional method - it is an awesome little piece!

Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the simple beauty of the stone used.

Background on this form: the drop shaped pendant is known as a comfort stone and is worn to soothe, heal and provide positive energy.

In New Zealand this shape is called 'roimata' and is a stylised, softer version of the toki.

This particular piece is carved from New Zealand flower jade and is beautifully bound. It is a lovely pendant if you are looking for something traditional with the decorative binding.
