Maripi - Knife: handmade jade toki.
Beautiful hand carved toki - a fantastic gift for someone very special. This toki is carved from Nephrite Jade found in Aceh, Indonesia. The Jade has a lovely mix of colours - milky green shades with hints of blue and paler whitish mineral inclusions.
Have a look at the video and you will see the variability of colours in this marvellous piece. Each toki is hand bound with a waxed cord. The neck cord is hand plaited and is adjustable. It has a couple of slip knots so that you can position the pendant where it suits you best.
We have these bound in Khaki and Black cords so as to not distract from the natural colours in the stone. If you would like a different cord colour or binding please let us know at the checkout.

As an adornment, the Toki, or Adze, is said to bring courage and strength in times of adversity. It is a symbol of courage and strength in times of adversity and is often worn by Māori elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
Māori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.
