Whether for you, or someone special this Hei-Matau (hook) pendant will bring an abundance of joy.
A really nice jade hook that we have had carved with care and precision. We have bound this pendant with an Olive or Black coloured cord and a traditional lashing on the shaft - decorative and strong.
We used jade from Aceh in Indonesia to carve this piece. The colours are quite fascinating - pale through bright green with dark inclusions.
Take a moment to view the video to appreciate the material used and the beautifully clean lines of this piece. This will make a fabulous pendant for someone who loves the ocean.
The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
