NEW ARRIVAL
One of the coolest pieces we've seen in a while!
A hand carved traditional Māori Flute. We've named this piece KORIMAKO after our Bellbird which has one of the most beautiful songs you will ever hear.
This traditional Māori flute is called a Kōauau. These are carved tubes, traditionally made from bone or wood, and open at both ends. They are usually somewhere between 10 and 20cm long (4 - 8 inches) and have between three and six finger holes drilled through the bore - this one has three holes. This causes the air to swirl inside the flute producing a soft, haunting sound.
KORIMAKO is fully functioning and can be played (if you know how). Equally it is a beautiful piece of traditional art.
This piece is carved from New Zealand Jade, Pounamu - the front face is decorated with a manaia. This one will interest collectors of Māori art. It is fitted with a neck cord so can be worn - it also makes an outstanding display piece.
We have taken a short video of this piece rotating so please take a look to view the beauty of this piece in 3D.
