LEOPARD - this is the coolest piece of flower jade we've seen for a while! As soon as we saw this gorgeous jade we named the piece LEOPARD - it has spots like one, it looks fast, slightly dangerous and stunningly beautiful.
Carved with clean, simple lines and traditionally lashed, this is a beautiful representation of the revered māori adze. We've added a custom made necklace plaited with a mix of our Kalahari and Black waxed cords. The lashing on the toki head is black. These colours enhance the subtle and shadowed tones of this seriously beautiful piece of Flower Jade.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve these pieces comes from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It has been created in the alpine fault and has worked its way down an alpine river - created under extreme pressure and worked over in a fast flowing, steep river. These are tough little pieces with a lot of history!
These pendants are traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We will ship this beautiful pendant to you with DHL Express Courier, bound in a hand plaited adjustable cord. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
