A small, unique drop pendant carved from our rare Tangiwai Pounamu. This stone comes from one remote region in the deep South of New Zealand. Tangiwai is regarded by Māori as a treasure and has traditionally been used for trade and to make decorative jewellery.
It is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, so the translation means 'tears of sorrow'.
This pendant is beautifully carved and we have used our Pale Honey cord for the binding. It is streamlined, gloriously curved and polished to a rich sheen.
Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the form of this little piece. We have also taken a photo with the piece backlit - take a moment to look at the wonderful structure in this stone.
The drop shaped pendant is known as a comfort stone and is worn to soothe, heal and provide positive energy.
In New Zealand this shape is called 'roimata' and is a stylised, softer version of the toki.
