NEW ARRIVAL
This is a very striking toki pendant, a standout piece, carved from beautiful New Zealand Flower Jade.
The jade is a wonderful blend of colours - a deep green at the head transitioning through palish minty greens and into reddish, coppery colour at the sharp edge of the blade - a LION crouched in the veldt.
We've bound it with our Kalahari and Pohutukawa Red cord and a Pohutukawa Red binding which complements the mix of colours in the jade perfectly.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve LION came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It was created under enormous pressure in the alpine fault and then further shaped and formed in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
