A stunning hand carved toki pendant, THE FENCER!
Have a look at the video we have taken of this piece slowly rotating. It has a very subtle and beautiful form. Carved for us by a Ric Moor, this piece is polished to a silky matte finish - this is an outstanding piece of jewellery.
We'll let the photos, and the video, speak for this gorgeous pendant.
THE FENCER - a toki handcarved from New Zealand Pounamu. We've given this piece this name because it reminds us of the colours you'll find if you're putting in posts the old-fashioned way (with a shovel) over here. You dig through the grass and into the soil - often hitting the dreaded clay! This is a big, strong pendant, tough and resilient.
Watch the video - this is the best way to see the form of this piece. This toki is not flat - it has a gentle wave along the vertical plane. The video shows THE FENCER slowly rotating so you will see this subtle shape, and the variation in thickness from top to bottom - worth the few moments it will take to view this.
THE TOKI - it's history and meaning...
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
This is a one-off piece and will make someone very happy!
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
