HISTORY
Otikoki is a family business developed in 1891 by Edward Albert Davey. It's still in the family, now run by Davy Davey - Edward's grandson.
Honey was introduced to the farming enterprise in 1935 when the first harvest of pure, organic honey was produced. Today, this unique location produces a limited amount of Premium Raw Organic Manuka Honey each year - and we have snapped up a small supply for our honey lovers!
Otikoki is a 'long way from nowhere'! The farm is accessibly by jetboat, fixed-wing aircraft or helicopter only, so the bees are undisturbed and left to go about their business in a remote, beautiful and quiet part of the world.
HEALTH BENEFITS
This honey contains the compound that makes active Manuka honey sought after - Dietary Methylglyoxal (MGO). MGO is an organic compound found in some Manuka Honey, and it is responsible for the honey's strong antibacterial properties. A lot of scientific research has been done looking into these beneficial properties. Some scientists attribute MGO rich honey with significant benefits in managing gut bacteria, healing wounds and assisting with tissue regeneration. Aside from these researched health benefits, it is really delicious!
