NEW ARRIVAL
MOXIE - force of character, determination, or nerve
Big, Bold and Beautiful - this is a cool piece that will attract attention for its wonderful design and for the gorgeous, flower jade it's carved from.
A finely-carved Matau (hook) crafted from New Zealand pounamu. This pendant is carved from a gorgeous deep green jade with some little swirls of mint that Ross has highlighted beautifully in this fabulous pendant.
Also very nice, is the soft matte finish - it lends the piece a traditional feel and is silky smooth to wear.
Ross has incorporated koru spirals in the tail, and the centre, of this matau, combining two shapes well-known in the South Pacific, and giving it an interesting symbology:
The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
We will ship this pendant to you with DHL Express Courier on a hand plaited adjustable cord.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, explaining the meaning behind both the Matau (hook) and Koru design.
