Jade Toki carved for us by Ross Crump.
Carved with clean, simple lines and traditionally lashed, this is a beautiful representation of the revered māori adze.
The jade used for this piece is quite unique - displaying the layers of colour in the boulder it has come from.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade comes from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It has been created in the alpine fault under extreme pressure and has been worked over in a fast flowing, steep river.
These pendants are traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We will ship this beautiful pendant to you with DHL Express Courier, bound in an olive green hand plaited adjustable cord.
