Hand carved Serpentinite Toki pendant.
This is a beautiful stone, named because of its green mottled appearance which resembles a serpent. The mottled appearance is due to serpentine group minerals which are present in the stone - this is a fantastic example of the beauty of this material.
Check out the photos - you will see the life bubbling up inside the stone! This has really interesting mineral inclusions which make it a fantastic decorative stone. Also take a moment to watch the brief video - this piece really is a little stunner.
Serpentinite stone has traditionally been used by Māori to craft tools, jewellery and weapons. Like New Zealand jade it is classed as Pounamu and is regarded as a treasured and valuable stone.
