We are very excited to offer this piece for sale!
A beautiful, large pendant carved from a lovely piece of flower jade.
Carved by master jade carver - Ross Crump with his trademark attention to detail. Ross has an unique ability to bring out the very best in the piece of jade he's working with - this is very evident with this piece.
This manaia incorporates the head of a bird, a koru and the tail of a fish - linking the sky, land and sea. These are important symbols down here in the South Pacific.
If you like the photos, take a moment to watch the short video. You will gain an appreciation of the pendant shape and the variation in colour.
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
We will provide this beautiful pendant with a hand-plaited, black cord which is length adjustable.
