A beautifully bound and hand carved hook pendant made from whalebone. This is a wonderful piece, softly rounded and with a marvellous feel.
The bone has quite a tight grain, the front is etched with a traditional decorative design and the back side has been left plain. We have bound this with a flaxen coloured cord and a bright Pohutukawa red lashing on the top - a striking combination.
Watch te short video we have made of PAIKEA rotating to appreciate the shape and colour of this pendant.
The wearer of a matau is seen as a provider and protector. Someone strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
Whale bone is porous and will absorb body oils. It will take on a golden colour over time.
We provide this pendant with a plaited cord which is adjustable in the length. Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the hook design.
