RAINBOWS EDGE - at the edge of the rainbow lies your pot of gold, get through the rain and unleash your soul.
This toki is handmade by Ross Crump. Ross is a Master Jade Carver who is renowned for his skill in working with this material. He consistently brings out the very best in the piece of stone that he is working with, which is why his carved pieces are so harmonious - this simple toki is a great example of his skill.
We have bound this with our MANUKA GREEN/KALAHARI/BURGUNDY CORD and BURGUNDY BINDING. A unique colour combination, striking much like a rainbow, to let the stone come to the fore - and what a piece of stone this is! Stunning colour variation that reveals the extraordinary stress and pressure the jade is exposed to as it forms - and then it heals and produces something quite spectacular - RAINBOWS EDGE.
Have a look at the video of this piece rotating - it has a very fascinating structure and colour variation and we have bound it with a cord that complements this.
A little about the toki design and its meaning....
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve this stunning Toki came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island, from the Marsden valley. It was created in the alpine fault and shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
