NEW ARRIVAL
Hand carved from gorgeous New Zealand Jade.
'Oh Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
We've called this piece ROMEO - how could we not? A powerful little toki - carved in New Zealand pounamu, bound in striking Pohutukawa Red - a resounding declaration of love!
This pendant is bound with a Pohutukawa Red, hand-plaited cord. Take a look at the video to see the shape of the pendant and the variability in the stone.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We have one only, and this piece will be removed from our site when sold. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
