Hand carved from RARE New Zealand Kauri Gum and sterling silver.
Kauri gum is the resin produced by Kauri trees, a native tree found only in New Zealand. They are a mighty tree growing to over 50 metres tall and some surviving over 20,000 years.
The gum was found by digging in areas where kauri forests once existed, or by fossicking in the crowns of live trees. Needless to say the gum was used by early māori as a chewing gum, to colour tattoos and as a trading good. Today it is very rare so we are fortunate to have this beautiful little piece to offer.
The imperfections and impurities visible in the material are part of the makeup of this material and add to its gorgeous character.
Delivered with a 45cm sterling silver wire.
