SIXTH SENSE - hand carved by master bone carver Fumio Noguchi.
Introducing SIXTH SENSE! Crafted from a piece of sperm whale rib, this is a large and visually powerful piece. Fumio has crafted a unique piece, from a gorgeous, gnarly piece of whalebone. He has very cleverly used the texture of the material to make a pendant that really is a 'tale of two sides'. One side a creamy, sold piece of bone - the other, porous, coloured and earthy.

This manaia incorporates the head of a bird, a koru and the tail of a fish - linking the sky, land and sea. These are important symbols down here in the South Pacific.
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
The Hook: The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
Whale bone is quite porous and will absorb body oils. It will take on a golden colour over time. Local belief would say that the pendant becomes a part of you.
