Long and slender - slice of New Zealand's Far South...
SLIM JIM - a sleek, long Tangiwai Toki pendant dressed with a Pohutukawa Red binding with Black cord. Contrasting colours to highlight the beauty of the deep green Tangiwai. All wrapped up with a stunning MATTE finish.
This piece is carved from our rare and beautiful Tangiwai Pounamu - a gorgeous stone from Anita Bay in Fiordland. This particular piece is a very, very dark green - as mysterious as the remote region it is found.
Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, so the translation means 'tears of sorrow'.
Take a look at the video to see the shape of the pendant and the wonderful colour of the stone.
As an adornment, the Toki, or Adze, is said to bring courage and strength in times of adversity. It is a symbol of courage and strength in times of adversity and is often worn by Maori elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
Maori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.
Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
