A carved JADE matau pendant, made by hand from a beautiful colourful piece of New Zealand jade. This has beautiful flowing lines and the high quality of craftsmanship that typifies Ross Crump's work.
We have named this piece SWEPT AWAY. The sweeping wave-like forms of the engraved koru remind us of a slow swell rolling in from the ocean. This is a large piece carved by a master carver - something to wear or display and certainly a piece for the generations.
If you like the look of this pendant, take a moment to watch the very brief video which shows the pendant rotating. This reveals the beauty of the jade and the skill of the carver!
A very fine tribute to the matau - which traditionally symbolises a leader, someone who will protect and provide. Notable about this piece are the three koru carved into the body - it is a significant piece, large and bold. It looks fantastic worn!
Perfect to express love, recognise an important anniversary or long-standing friendship or perhaps to seal an engagement.
The Hook: The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
We will ship this to you with DHL Express Courier.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, explaining the meaning behind both the Matau (hook) and Koru design.
