THE RISING SUN - mark the light of a new day.
Jade Toki carved by Ross Crump. Ross has used an incredible piece of Jade for THE RISING SUN - semi translucent inanga stone at the top descending into a band of darker coloured mossy green stone and then a very pale milky green layer at the base of the toki blade. This is the stone on the outer rind of the boulder - a toki marking the ages.
Carved with clean, simple lines we will provide this with an adjustable cord and a traditional head binding.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve these toki comes from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island. It has been created in the alpine fault and has worked its way down an alpine river - created under extreme pressure and worked over in a fast flowing, steep river. These are tough little pieces with a lot of history!
These pendants are traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We will ship this beautiful pendant to you with DHL Express Courier, bound in a hand plaited adjustable cord. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
