The Priestess

We are privileged to offer The Priestess for sale. Donn Salt created this carving as a representation of the Earth’s rebellion against the atrocities visited upon her by humanity. The Priestess rises from the earth to address these atrocities, and defend her spiritual home, the work is a symbol of regeneration.

Donn Salt is one of New Zealand’s most renowned Jade artists. His carvings range from small pendants and sculptures through very large and significant carved artworks, many of which have received world recognition for their creativity and exceptional craftsmanship.

Donn entered The Priestess in the 2015 Arts and Crafts Museum Competition in Suzhou China (one of four major Jade carving competitions in China). From 2,800 entries, 800 were selected for the competition. The Priestess won one of two awards for workmanship and overall, the Silver medal. This is a spectacular achievement in a nation that has revered jade carving as a high art form for more than 7,000 years.

This is an outstanding carving, crafted from an exceptional piece of New Zealand Jade, or Pounamu as it is known locally. The Priestess shows magnificent translucence particularly in the wings.

We consider this an investment piece of exceptional quality from an exceptional artist.
