A small drop style pendant from Tangiwai Pounamu.
This is a very small piece - carved from a translucent green stone called Tangiwai. This rare stone comes from a remote area in the Milford Sounds in New Zealand's South Westland.
Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, so the translation means 'tears of sorrow'.
The drop shaped pendant is believed to be a comfort stone and is worn to soothe, heal and provide positive energy.
In New Zealand this shape is called 'roimata' and is a stylised, softer version of the toki.
