NEW ARRIVAL
Check out the remarkable colouring in this stone. It is a beautiful mottled green reminiscent of the flash of a brown trout running up an alpine river while the corner has a burst of orangey/gold - a stunning one off piece.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The jade used to carve this stunning Toki came from the West Coast on New Zealand's South Island, from the Marsden valley. It was been created in the alpine fault and was shaped and given further character in our alpine rivers.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
