WAIRUA KAKARIKI - Green Spirit
Hand carved by Ross Crump - a small-medium sized manaia pendant. The jade is a very dark green Marsden - you can see the stone best in the photos and in the video.
This is a faultless piece of carved art. The jade is a lustrous and very dark green - an exceptional piece of stone. Worn, WAIRUA KAKARIKI appears almost black, but when the light hit the stone it glows a dark green. Backlit, the jade displays a gorgeous filmy translucence - there is an awful lot hidden in this piece of stone!
To appreciate the design, take a moment to watch the short video. This shows the piece slowly rotating and will give you a clear view of the shape and the colour of the jade.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE DESIGN ELEMENTS...
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
We will provide this pendant with a Kaki Green plaited cord which is length adjustable.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Manaia and Hook design.
Delivery with Express Courier is included in the price.
