Hand carved by Ross Crump - this is a beautiful pendant carved from Kahurangi Jade.
This piece looks fantastic from both sides - one side is carved with a little definition at the bottom of the tail, on the other it is smoothly rounded and solid!
Take a moment to watch the short video. This shows the piece slowly rotating and will give you a clear view of the shape and the wonderful colour of the jade.
This is a classic Ross Crump manaia!
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.
We will ship this pendant in one of our woven kete pouches and shipped with express courier.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Manaia and Hook design.
Shipping is included in the price.
