WATERS EDGE - blue jade breastplate, hand carved in New Zealand
A beautifully carved 'Shield' pendant with a traditional ridge binding. This is carved from our unique and rare New Zealand Aotea stone. It has a glorious and distinctive blue colour! Carved jewellery from this material are uncommon and sought after.
WATERS EDGE is a strong pendant which can be worn either side and can be positioned where it suits best with the length adjustable cord.
The finish is a burnished sheen which brings out the blue and green colours in this exquisite piece of stone. The front face is very lightly convex and the rear closer to flat - it is subtle but beautifully formed and the carving is exquisite.
Take a look at the photos and watch the very brief video to get a feel for the form and colour of this pendant. WATERS EDGE is unique and a one-off piece of jewellery.
Aotea stone is found in one remote location in the South West of New Zealand. It is rarer than Pounamu and is valued for its beauty. It has long been used by Māori for jewellery, trade and to gift. The wonderful blue colour comes from the mineral Kyanite.
