WHAIKAHA - TO HAVE STRENGTH
WHAIKAHA is one of a series of toki that we commissioned from Andrew. These are beautifully carved, thoughtful pieces that capture concepts that are important to us. The materials used are beautiful and significant, for a multitude of reasons, in our corner of the world.
WHAIKAHA - is a medium sized and beautifully carved traditional Adze/Toki. Carved for us by Andrew Doughty, one of our favourite bone carvers and artists. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, second to none - a gorgeous piece of handcrafted jewellery!
This is a beautiful piece, carved with a great deal of care and thought. Andrew describes the ethos behind his design in some detail and we will supply this description with the carving. Briefly it's meaning is as follows...
WHAIKAHA - contains a kowhaiwhai pattern along both sides. This symbolises balance. With a balanced mind we can navigate our lives with calm and confidence.
On the front there is a special inlay of buffalo horn enclosed in a ring of brass. This symbolises great strength.
On the back there is an engraving of the logo of NZPacific.com This symbolises the meeting of the Mountains and the sea. In New Zealand we are fortunate to be close to these beautiful and mighty powers of nature. There are few places in the world where they both meet so closely together. In essence, it is a celebration of nature and love.
This Taonga has been registered in Andrew's database and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
A fantastic toki, meaningful, beautifully carved and deserving of a home for generations.
We provide this piece with a note from the artist to the holder of this carving.
Also included, on of our Kia Ora cards which explain a little behind the Toki design. This stunning Toki will come to you in one of our wooden boxes.
