Sami has created a remarkable piece of carved art in HUIA'S LANGUAGE.This carving is the slender, curved form of a female huia bird beak. It is perfectly carved and closely replicates the real thing.
The Huia Bird is an extinct songbird once found in New Zealand's bush. Renowned for its beauty and wonderful song, Māori regarded the Huia as tapu - sacred - and only people of high status were allowed to wear its feathers or skin. Sadly, these birds no longer grace our forests, but from time to time a carver remembers them, and pays tribute through their art.
Sami has added a sterling silver bale - we provide this piece with a 50cm sterling silver chain. We have also shown this pendant on an adjustable cord; if you would rather a cord please let us know in the comments section at checkout.
Watch the brief video to appreciate the 3-dimensional character of Sami's carving.
HUIA'S LANGUAGE is lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch.
